Work Experience

Currently seeking work experience for 2 weeks in Jan/2010 as part of my masters course.
Posted my mailouts today, they're based on a personal ad and are screenprinted onto newsprint,
which as it turns out is a nightmare stock to print onto
Here's some dodgy iPhone shots of them in the making.

Design Museum

Was in London last weekend at went to the Design Museum.
I was in my element, even if one of the floors was shut for new installations.
Javier Mariscal's exhibit was great, funny animations playing inside 3D objects protruding
from the wall, his work for Barcelona '92, and hundreds of mostly hand-drawn logotypes. Top floor had the late Jan Kaplický's architecture. Crazy stuff, very organic looking - giant blobs of buildings which look as if they stepped out of the deep ocean. His 'Home for a Helicopter Pilot' was my favourite...(which is nothing like his latter organic looking work btw).

Oh Dear

No posts for ages. I've been busy with a move to the UK, this place, Edinburgh. I've started an MA in Graphic Design at ECA. I like it, and I love the cobblestones.

Old 2 New 0

Carrying on from the blandness of modern design relating to telephones post, I fulfilled one of my childhood dreams this year by getting on board a Concorde. In my dreams I would have been flying the thing myself of course but walking through the plane at the National Museum of Flight in Scotland is the best I can get now. I still can't believe this thing was designed in the 60's. It doesn't look remotely retro, its pure Jetsons. I wonder if it will ever look dated. In comparison look at what Boeing have come up with for their new jet. Wow, that looks like every other passenger jet from the past 30 years. It does have a sweet name though....the Dreamliner.

Old vs. New

Saw this old phone in the office today. I'm a sucker for nice design...in any format, from a phone to a poster. Are we getting blander with new stuff though?? This phone is probably 15-20 years old but its simplicity is just so cool. An iPhone is slightly more portable though I will admit.

The Butternut-squash man.

Blog start.
